Up until his illness, Craig was the family computer guru. He set up and maintained our small home network of computers using Token Ring technology.
Once he was incapacitated, there was little option but to get our eldest son Zephaniah, at that time 17 years old, and keen to work in the computer industry, to take over.
Zeph has developed the home network to the point where our incoming and outgoing mail is routed through our own mail server, and two of the machines use the very reliable, secure and totally free Linux operating system in contrast to the expensive and less reliable Microsoft Windows. The network uses ethernet technology now.
During this time, Zeph was also able to earn a living for a short time by writing code for a software company, which sadly went bankrupt. He was helping to support the rest of the family during that time.
He has encouraged other members of the family, right down to his youngest sibling, to take an active interest in communicating by computer, and several of them maintain on-line friendships from home where there is knowledgeable and understanding supervision rather than the "control" that exists in most households where parents sadly have no idea of the potential for unsupervised danger - and either allow free access to whatever, or deny access altogether.
Both Zedekiah and Schiphra regularly participate in grown-up (not "adult") conversations in a couple of safe monitored chat rooms, and Zed has even set up his own chatroom, staffed by several of his older (in years) personal friends he has made since discovering IRC (Internet Relay Chat).
Zeph has also set up a small network where Hephzepah and her own friends can "game" together in complete security. There are photos at the bottom of the Family page on this website.
We have set up this website on another friend's computer out of a feeling of a need for security of the data it contains, and to ensure it remains on-line.
We give Zeph top marks for his efforts.
